Why I Teach
I love teaching mathematics. For me, teaching math is the best job in the world. I started teaching because I have always loved the classroom. Each group of students is different. Each has an unknown quantity of rewards and challenges. Every day I must be at my best and problem solve in the moment. I also believe that the learning of mathematics opens doors to opportunities. I really believe that teaching mathematics is a social justice issue. Research indicates that students that take rigorous mathematics courses move up the economic ladder. I also feel that many mathematics teachers do not realize the impact they have on their students. I hold each student I have in the highest stem. I feel I ask my students more than they have been asked in the past. Some actually do what I ask them to do which is a large risk on their part. I am humbled by their acceptance and their compliance.
